(Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners return home this weekend to host Lewis and Wisconsin-Parkside in the final weekend of cross divisional play. S&T will the face the Flyers on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and then face the Rangers on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Lady Miners snapped their five-game losing streak last week with road wins at Illinois Springfield and McKendree to keep their conference playoff hopes alive. S&T began the week one spot out of the tournament race, but moved up to 11
th with the wins. The top four teams from each division and four wild cards advance to the GLVC Tournament which begins on March 2.
Beginning on Thursday the Lady Miners will play three of their last five games at home.
S&T is averaging 68.4 points per game and is led in scoring by
Toni Knar (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) with 12.5 per game.
Karli Sample (St. Joseph, Mo./Benton) is dropping in 12.1 per contest while
Kylie Cooper (Andover, Kan./Andover) is averaging 10.4 a game. S&T is shooting 44.2 percent (531-for-1202) from the field this season and has made 113 of its 316 attempts (35.8 percent) from beyond the arc.
Lewis comes into Thursday's contest with a record of 18-3, 12-1 in the GLVC, winners of six straight, it has won 15 of its last 16 and is ranked 15
th in this week's WBCA Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Flyers are averaging 79.3 points per game and are led by Mariyah Brawner-Henley with 18.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. She leads the GLVC in rebounding and is second in the league in scoring. Joining Brawner-Henley in double figures are Jamie Johnson and Jess Reinhart with 16.4 and 15.0 ppg respectively. Nikki Nellen has dished out 112 assists.
Thursday's contest marks the 13
th meeting all-time between Missouri S&T and Lewis with the Flyers holding a 9-3 advantage. Last season the Lady Miners snapped a six-game losing streak against Lewis with a 69-62 win in Rolla on January 5. The two teams then met in the conference tournament for the fourth straight year with the Flyers winning 50-42 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind.
On Saturday, S&T will square off against Wisconsin-Parkside. The Rangers enter Thursday's contest at Drury with a record of 7-14 overall, 3-10 in the GLVC. They snapped a five-game losing streak last Saturday with a 70-66 win against Rockhurst at home . Gaby Bronson led three Parkside players in double figures with 20 points.
The Rangers are averaging 60.5 points per game, but allowing just 63.7 a contest. Bronson leads the team in scoring with 14.2 ppg and is joined in double figures by Tara Knapstein with 11.8 per outing and Danielle Slivka with 10.0 a game. Bronson also leads the team in rebounding and assists.
Saturday's game will be the 10
th meeting all-time between the two clubs with S&T holding a 5-4 edge in the series. The Lady Miners snapped a three-game losing streak to Parkside with a 69-66 win in Rolla on January 3 of last year.
