ROLLA, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners play host to Culver-Stockton in its final game before the holiday break on Saturday afternoon at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building at 1 p.m. S&T looks to snap its five-game losing streak while Culver-Stockton brings a two-game losing streak into Saturday's contest.
The Lady Miners have dropped their last two contests in overtime, including an 81-78 double overtime defeat on Wednesday against Southwest Baptist. S&T led for over 40 minutes in the contest, but went scoreless over the final 1:40 of the second overtime and ended up on the down side of the decision.
Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia), who is shooting 42 percent from three-point range and has a team-high 10 three-pointers, led the Lady Miners with a career-high 16 points.
Demetria Snaden (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) and
Kimberly Runge (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) added 10 points each, while
Jamy Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) grabbed 10 rebounds.
Leigh-Ann Kepser had four blocked shots in Wednesday's contest, she leads the GLVC with 22 blocks, and comes into Saturday's game as S&T's leading scorer with an average of 9.4 points per game.
Brittany Andersen (Saint John, Ind./Andrean ) is averaging 8.3 points a game while
Elsie Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo./Penney High School) is at 8.1 per contest.
Culver-Stockton, 7-3 on the season, dropped its second straight contest on Wednesday evening at Mount Mercy (Iowa) 67-55. The Wildcats got off to a slow start trailing by as many as 20 points in the first half. C-SC shot only 35 percent from the field and was 5-of-19 from beyond the arc. It outrebounded Mount Mercy 40-to-39 and turned 12 offensive rebounds into 14 second chance points. Jasmine Mathews and TJ Hart led the way with 13 and 12 points respectively.
Randi Lee Plunkett leads two Wildcats in double figures with an average of 11.4 points per game; she has scored 10 or more points in seven of the team's 10 games this season and had a season-high 19 points against Kansas Wesleyan on Nov. 7. Mathews is averaging 11.0 points a game. Larra Kubinski leads the team in rebounding with eight per game, while Hart has dished out a team-high 38 assists.
Saturday's contest is the seventh all-time meeting between Missouri S&T and Culver-Stockton with the series tied 3-3. This is the first meeting between the two schools in 20 years. S&T has won both meetings played against C-SC in Rolla. The last time the two sides met the Lady Miners prevailed 81-77 in overtime at the Missouri Southern Classic on Nov. 18, 1995.
