The Lady Miner defense tightened holding Arkansas-Monticello scoreless for 7:30 and without a field goal for over eight minutes, but could only make a small dent in the deficit getting to within 20-8 on a jumper by Jamy Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) with 5:17 left in the half.

The Cotton Blossoms countered with a seven straight points to push their lead to the largest of the half at 27-8 on a jumper by Nelsha Peterson with 1:12 left in the frame. S&T started the second half on a 5-2 run to trim the deficit to 14 points after a pair of free throws from Leigh-Ann Kesper (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville).
