Women’s basketball heads on the road to face Arkansas-Monticello

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Missouri S&T's women's basketball team hits the road for the first time in the 2014-15 regular season when it takes on Arkansas-Monticello on Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m.

S&T (3-1) looks to bounce back from its first loss of the season while Arkansas-Monticello tries to build off its first win of the season over Southern Nazarene.

The Lady Miners dropped a 67-54 decision against Central Missouri in the final game of the Lady Miner Classic this past Saturday. S&T got off to a slow start falling behind 13-2 to start the game and didn't get closer than eight points the rest of the way. The Lady Miners shot 54 percent from the floor in the second half while holding the Jennies to just 33 percent shooting but couldn't keep UCM off the foul line as it went 17-for-20 in the half.

S&T is led in scoring by Elsie Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo./Penney High School) with 10.8 per contest while Leigh-Ann Kesper (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and Sandra Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) are adding 9.3 and 8.5 ppg respectively. As a team the Lady Miners are shooting 48.5 percent from the field and have connected on 17 of their 43 attempts from long range. They're outrebounding the opposition by over eight rebounds per game, but have turned it over an average of 20.5 per contest.

The Cotton Blossoms have played three very close ball games to begin the season. They dropped their season at Lindenwood 70-68 and then fell in overtime against East Central (Okla.) 69-65 before defeating Southern Nazarene 79-75 this past Saturday afternoon.

UAM is averaging 70.7 points per game while yielding 71.3 per contest and it is shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 40.9 percent beyond the arc. It's attempted 67 free throws on the season and has made 48 of them. It's got a slight edge on the glass 39.3-to-38.0 and is forcing its opponents to turn the ball over an average of 14 times per game.

The Cotton Blossoms are led in scoring by Jordan Goforth who is averaging 20.7 per contest and is joined in double figures by Tamia Grady with 12.7 and Nikki Mullen is dropping in 10.3 per night. Tori Nichols leads the way on the glass averaging 10.3 rebounds per game.

Tuesday's contest marks the second all-time meeting between S&T and Arkansas-Monticello. The Lady Miners defeated the Cotton Blossoms 79-75 in Rolla last season getting 23 points from Mia Wesley (Philadelphia, Pa./John Bartram), 19 from Senait McLeod (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef) and 10 from Karli Sample (St. Joseph, Mo./Benton). Goforth led UAM with 23 points while Grady had 10 and Poohnu Perry finished with 11.
