ROLLA, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners continue its season opening four game homestand on Tuesday night hosting Hannibal-LaGrange at the Bullman-Multi-Purpose Building starting at 7 p.m. S&T looks to build off its 85-68 win over Henderson State in its season opener last Saturday while Tuesday's contest is an exhibition game for the Trojans.
The Lady Miners used a 21-2 run in the second half to rally from an eight-point deficit to defeat the Lady Reddies last Saturday night. S&T outscored HSU by 22 points and shot 58 percent from the field in the second half. The Lady Miners had four players reach double figures led by
Elsie Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo./Penney High School)'s career-high 18 points while
Leigh-Ann Kesper (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) dropped in a career-high 13 points.
Sandra Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) and
Jamy Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) added 12 and 10 points respectively.
It marked the 13
th consecutive year that S&T has won its season opener dating back to an 83-58 loss at Quincy to begin the 2001-02 season.
Tuesday's contest is the second meeting all-time between the Lady Miners and Hannibal-LaGrange with with S&T winning the first meeting 106-40 on Dec. 9, 1995.
The Trojans enter play on Tuesday with a record of 0-2 suffering both defeats to Culver-Stockton. They lost to the Wildcats 86-69 at home on Nov. 1 and then fell at Canton, Mo., 84-59 11 days later. Hannibal-LaGrange played an exhibition game at GLVC rival Truman State this past Friday suffering a 103-62 defeat.
The Trojans are averaging 64.0 points games while yielding 85 per contest and are shooting just 38.5 percent from the floor (50-for-130). They've connected on just 4 of its 27 three-point attempts and are shooting 67 percent at the foul line. They're getting outrebounded by 22 rebounds per contest and have turned it over 32 times.
Megan Winkler and Ashleigh Hurd-Spencer lead Hannibal-LaGrange in scoring with 15.5 points per game each while Sarah Cline is dropping home 12.5 per night. Hurd-Spencer also leads the team in rebounding with seven per game and Cline has dished out a team best 10 assists.
