(Rolla, Mo.) – Julie Bride (Stilwell, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas)'s goal in the 75th minute lifted Missouri S&T to a 1-0 win over Maryville on Sunday afternoon at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. With the shutout the Lady Miners ran their streak of not allowing a goal in home GLVC contests to 573:26 minutes dating back to last October in a 1-1 tie against Wisconsin-Parkside.
The game was scoreless through the first 45 minutes though both sides had their chances. The Saints (3-4-3, 2-4-2 GLVC) had the better of the chances putting three shots on goal compared to one for S&T (4-6, 4-4 GLVC). Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) made three saves in the opening frame keeping Maryville off the scoreboard.
The Saints continued applying pressure in the first 25 minutes of the second half and had several opportunities to get on the board, but Deister stood tall making three saves in the period to keep it scoreless.
The Lady Miners broke the scoreless with 15:40 to play. Sarah Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) tracked down a long ball held possession and got it to her sister Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) who fired a ball into the box. The goalkeeper came out and tried to snare it but it went right through her hands and Bride was on the backside to tap it into the empty net for second goal of the season.
Maryville had one more chance at the equalizer in the 84th minute when Rachel Wiesehan sent a shot over the crossbar. S&T was able to pretty much hang onto the ball the last five minutes to preserve their fourth shutout of the season.
The Saints held a 10-6 edge in shots and 6-3 in shots on goal. The Lady Miners took seven corner kicks to three for Maryville and were whistled for 11 fouls compared to seven for the Saints.
Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) took four shots and put two on goal while Bride and Leah Camery (Anchorage, Alaska/Steller Secondary School) had a shot apiece. Deister made six saves in net to earn the 11th shutout of her career.
Amanda Wiechens and Shannon Foley combined to take seven of Maryville's 10 shots and put five of those on goal. Madison Buelow made a pair of saves.
S&T returns to action on Friday night in Lebanon, Ill., against McKendree University beginning at 5 p.m.
