Lady Miners run win streak to three straight blanking McKendree 2-0

(Lebanon, Ill.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miner soccer squad ran its win streak to three straight games and four of its last six with a 2-0 win at McKendree on Friday evening. It was S&T's first win on the road this season and moved them into the top eight in the conference standings.

The Lady Miners (5-6, 5-4 GLVC) started quickly scoring in the third minute when Julie Bride (Stilwell, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) put home her third goal of the season off an assist from Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy). That would be S&T's only shot of the half as the Bearcats (5-7, 4-5 GLVC) dominated the remainder of the frame taking nine shots but only put two on target.

McKendree kept the pressure on in the first 20 minutes of the second half recording eight shots, but the S&T defense stood tall making three saves and blocking two other attempts. The Lady Miners got some breathing room in the 70th minute after Bride scored her second goal of the contest and third in her last two games off an assist from Sarah Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy).

The Bearcats continued their attack trying to get back into the contest taking five shots in the final 20 minutes but were unable to get anything past Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) who recorded her fifth shutout of the season and 12th for her career.

McKendree finished the contest outshooting S&T 22-6 and 8-3 in shots on goal. The Bearcats also had an 8-2 edge in corner kicks and were whistled for 10 fouls to the Lady Miners seven.

Bride and Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) combined to take four of S&T's six shots and had all three shots on goal. Deister finished the game with seven saves.

The Lady Miners are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Bellarmine University at 11 a.m. (Central Time) in Louisville, Ky.
