Lady Miners fall in regular season finale at Drury

(Springfield, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners concluded its 2014 regular season with a 3-1 loss at Drury on Wednesday evening. The Lady Miners (8-9, 8-7 GLVC) allowed three goals in a 15 minute stretch midway through the opening half.

S&T had a chance to get on the board in the opening 10 minutes and appeared to do so off a free kick from Sammy Minea (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley North ), but Julie Bride (Stilwell, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) was whistled for a foul in the box disallowing a goal.

The Panthers (10-4-3, 8-4-3 GLVC) broke the scoreless deadlock in the 14th minute on Mariah Gove's sixth goal of the season. Gove received a pass from Emily Cline at the top of the box finishing it inside the far post.

Drury added its second goal five minutes later when Cline and Gove hooked up again. This time it was Gove feeding Cline with a give-and-go and she finished to far side of the goal for her sixth of the season. The Panthers added their final tally in the 28th minute on Ciara O'Brien's fourth goal of the season chipping one in from 25 yards out.

Drury finished the opening half with a 7-5 edge on shots and had the only three shots on goal.

S&T had a chance to get on the board came in the 59th minute when Kendall Fitzpatrick (Houston, Texas/Memorial ) was turned away by the Panther keeper. The Lady Miners had another chance in the 74th but Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) was turned away by Taylor Pemberton. S&T broke the shutout in the 86th minute on Hostler's eighth goal of the season on an assist from her sister Sarah Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy).

The Lady Miners finished the contest with a 9-8 edge in shots and both sides had three shots on goal. S&T finished with 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Lady Miners return to action on Sunday afternoon traveling to Louisville, Ky., to take on Bellarmine in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament at 11 a.m. (Central time). The Knights are the tournament's second seed while S&T earned the seventh seed.
