Miners drop GLVC finale to Panthers; will face Drury again Sunday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday night with a 1-0 loss to 24th-ranked Drury – and as a result will head back to Springfield Sunday for its opening round game in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.

Sunday's game time will be at 2:30 p.m. at Harrison Stadium on the Drury campus.

The Panthers' win, which came as the result of Nick Ammann's second half goal, locked up the second seed for Drury for the tournament and for a while, left the Miners waiting to see if they were returning to Drury Sunday or heading to Quincy to face the tournament's top seed.

Bellarmine had rallied from a 3-0 deficit early in the second half to draw even with Southern Indiana, but the game ended in a 3-3 tie to keep S&T in the seventh spot in the seeding and put the Knights at No. 8.

The game was scoreless until the 83rd minute of play, when Ammann scored off an assist from Jack Mathis.  That goal broke up a tight defensive contest in which only five shots between the two teams were on goal.

S&T, who was outshot 12-4 overall, had only one shot on net, which came early in the second half on an attempt off the foot of Felipe Andrade (Belo Horizonte, Brazil).  The Miners had one other good shot after the Andrade shot, one by Neil Wiaranowski (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) in the 76th minute that was blocked by the defense.

James Holloway (Cape Girardeau, Mo./Notre Dame Regional) recorded three saves in goal for the Miners, who finished their conference season with a 7-6-2 mark and will take an 8-7-2 overall record into Sunday's contest.  Drury improved to 14-3 overall and 12-3 in the GLVC.
