(Rolla, Mo.) – Facing their first deficit at home all season the Missouri S&T Lady Miners rallied from a goal down to defeat Southern Indiana
2-1 and win its sixth straight home match on Sunday afternoon. It's now the longest win streak at home since an eight game winning streak from Oct. 16, 1996 to Oct. 12, 1997.
The game was highly competitive throughout and both teams had several good scoring opportunities in the opening 45 minutes. Southern Indiana (3-9-2, 2-8-2 GLVC) finally broke through in the 32
nd minute on a goal from Megan Herrington. Kaelin Matlock set the play up driving the ball down the right wing and fired a shot on goal.
Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) was able to punch it away but couldn't corral it and Herrington was there to put in the rebound. The goal broke S&T's (7-7, 7-5) home scoreless streak in GLVC play at 695:08 minutes.
The shots were even 12-12 in the opening frame with the Screaming Eagles putting seven shots on goal to six for the Lady Miners.
S&T tied the game 7:24 into the second half on
Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy)'s fifth goal of the season.
Kendall Fitzpatrick (Houston, Texas/Memorial ) served a ball from the left wing and Hostler ran onto and blasted it into the goal from the top of box. Not long after that the Lady Miners had another flurry in front of the USI goal but were unable to break the deadlock.
S&T took the lead nearly 20 minutes later on Hostler's second goal of the day and sixth of the season.
Alex McCord (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) served a perfect ball into the box and found Hostler who headed it inside the back post.
The Screaming Eagles had one more great chance to tie it four minutes later but Deister made the save. USI mounted some dangerous chances in the final 15 minutes but were unable to get anything on goal.
The shots were even for the match 21-21, but the Screaming Eagles had 13 shots on goal to 11 for the Lady Miners. USI had the edge in corner kicks 8-6 while both sides were whistled for 10 fouls.
Hostler led S&T with six shots, five on goal while
Leah Camery (Anchorage, Alaska/Steller Secondary School) had three shots on goal. Deister finished the game making 10 saves.
The Lady Miners return to action on the road this Friday traveling to Liberty, Mo., to take on William Jewell at 12 p.m.
