(Liberty, Mo.) –Missouri S&T continued its recent trend in Friday games of scoring early in its
3-1 win at William Jewell.
Sammy Minea (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley North )'s goal in the fourth minute made it four straight Fridays that the Lady Miners (8-7, 8-5 GLVC) have scored within the first five minutes of the contest. With the win S&T moved one step closer to advancing to the conference tournament for the second time in school history.
Minea's goal came off a corner kick from
Alex McCord (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View). McCord sent a shot a ball into the box that was knocked out but fell right to Minea who hit a low liner that hit off the goalkeeper's arm and into the goal. S&T had a couple of other chances early but were unable to convert. It added to its lead in the 35
th minute off another corner kick when McCord sent a ball to the back post and
Kacey Ludwig (McKinney, Texas/McKinney) was there to head it in the first goal of her collegiate career.
The shots were even 6-6 at the half with the Cardinals putting five on frame to four for the Lady Miners
S&T gained a little more separation from William Jewell in the 66
th minute on
Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy)'s seventh off the season off an assist from
Anna Fink (Fulton, Mo./Fulton). The Cardinals (6-6-3, 5-6-2 GLVC) broke the shutout with a goal in the 81
st minute from Lea Maxwell off an assist from Leah Connery
William Jewell outshot the Lady Miners 14-13 and put 11 shots on goal compared to nine for S&T.
Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) recorded six shots and put five of those on goal while
Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) made 10 saves in net.
S&T will host Rockhurst on Sunday afternoon at the S&T Soccer Field beginning at 12 p.m. The Lady Miners will honor their six seniors prior to the contest.
