(Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners ran their home winning streak to five straight with a
2-0 win over Illinois Springfield on Friday evening at Allgood-Bailey Stadium in Rolla, Mo. It's the longest home winning streak for S&T since winning five in a row from Oct. 23, 1998 until Oct. 6, 1999.
S&T (6-7, 6-5 GLVC) struck quickly with a goal in the third minute. After a foul on Illinois Springfield (2-9-2, 0-9-2 GLVC) near midfield
Kacey Ludwig (McKinney, Texas/McKinney) placed a ball into the box where
Kendall Fitzpatrick (Houston, Texas/Memorial ) and
Riley Cronin (Albuquerque, N. M./Sandia Prep) converged on it with the Prairie Star keeper. The ball came loose bouncing right to
Leah Camery (Anchorage, Alaska/Steller Secondary School) who blasted into the open net for her first of the year. For Camery it was the second of her career and both have come against Illinois Springfield.
The Lady Miners continued applying the pressure and nearly had a second goal nine minutes later.
Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) had a shot saved and
Sarah Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) had a chance on the rebound but couldn't get enough on it and it was saved too.
UIS nearly tied the game in the final minute of the opening half on an attempt by Eileen Kenny that
Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) tipped over the bar.
S&T went into the break with an 8-3 advantage in shots and 5-2 in shots on goal.
The Lady Miners added to their lead five minutes into the second half. Fitzpatrick served a corner kick into the box and
Kendra Wood (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) blasted one through the keeper's hands for her second of the year. The Prairie Stars tried to clear it off the line but the officials ruled the ball crossed before it was cleared out.
S&T then had to hold off a hard charging Illinois Springfield squad in the final 15 minutes. Alysa Manwill nearly broke up the shutout banging off the post. The Prairie Stars had a couple of other chances as well but weren't able to put them on goal.
The Lady Miners finished the contest with a 17-9 edge in shots and 8-2 in shots on goal. Camery and
Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) had four shots each while
Sophie Holle (Enid, Okla./Enid) had two shots off the bench. Deister made a pair of saves posting her sixth shutout of the season and the 13
th of her career.
S&T is back at home on Sunday taking on Southern Indiana at 12 p.m.
