Miner volleyball heads to Indiana and Kentucky this weekend

(Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T volleyball heads back out on the road this weekend traveling to Indiana and Kentucky for matchups against Southern Indiana and Bellarmine. Fresh off a pair of home victories to open GLVC play the Miners look to build off those wins and stay amongst the league leaders.

The first stop for S&T will be in Evansville, Ind., on Saturday to take on the Screaming Eagles who enters play this weekend with a mark of  7-3, 1-1 in the GLVC. USI had its five match winning streak snapped last Saturday dropping a 3-1 decision at Rockhurst. The Eagles bounced back on Sunday rallying from a 2-1 deficit to defeat William Jewell in five sets.

USI leads the GLVC in blocks with 2.57 per set and service aces (1.67/set). It is second in the league in hitting percentage (.218), third in opponent hitting percentage (.166), fifth in assists (11.64/set) and sixth in kills (12.28/set). Lauren DeShaney leads the Screaming Eagles in kills with 112 while Fawn Ryan and Erica Oberbroeckling have 90 kills apiece. Jorae Bradbury is averaging 9.53 assists/set and Kayla Heldman has dug 164 balls.

Saturday's match will be battle between two good defensive teams as the Miners are holding opponents to a .139 hitting percentage which is second in the conference and are third in blocks averaging 2.41 per set.

On Sunday, S&T will travel to Louisville to take on the Knights of Bellarmine University. Bellarmine enters the week at 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the league. The Knights won their league opener at William Jewell last Saturday and then lost at Rockhurst on Sunday. They host Kentucky State tonight in a non-conference contest. Bellarmine will host Drury on Saturday before taking on the Miners.

As a team the Knights are hitting .206 percent for the season while allowing their opponents to hit .209. They are averaging 12.1 kills per set and led by Krista Gibson with 93 kills and Emily McDaniel with 65. Three other players have at least 30 kills in the attack. Bailey BredenbeckCorp is averaging 9.55 assists/set while Jaclyn Ohlmann is averaging 6.72 digs/set.
 
S&T returns home next Tuesday to take on Central Missouri beginning at 6 p.m.
