Box Score (Springfield, Ill.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miner soccer team earned its first win of the 2013 season defeating Illinois Springfield
1-0 on Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Ill. The Lady Miners (1-2-1, 1-2-1 GLVC) controlled play for a majority of the match outshooting the hosts 18-9, 9-4 in shots on goal. With the win S&T snapped a two-game losing streak against UIS.
The Lady Miners broke the scoreless tie in the 64
th minute when
Leah Camery (Anchorage, Alaska/Steller Secondary School) scored her first of the season knocking home a loose ball during a scrum in the box. The Prairie Stars (1-5, 0-4 GLVC) had a chance to tie the game in the 66
th minute when S&T was whistled for a foul in the penalty box.
Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) guessed right on the penalty kick denying Falyn Lockenour the tying goal.
The Lady Miners outshot UIS in the first half by a margin of 7-4 and 11-5 in the second half. S&T registered four shots on goal in the opening half and had five on frame in the second half. Deister finished the match stopping all four shots she faced. Camery finished the match with seven shots, four on goal while
Kendall Fitzpatrick (Houston, Texas/Memorial ) had four shots and two on goal.
The Lady Miners look to make it two in a row when they play host to Bellarmine next Friday night beginning at 5 p.m.
