Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROLLA, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners couldn't get the clutch hits when it needed them and as a result dropped a pair of one-run decisions to Missouri-St. Louis 2-1 and 1-0 in eight innings on Saturday afternoon.

The Tritons (22-8, 13-1 GLVC) entered the doubleheader as the second best offensive team in the GLVC averaging nearly six runs per game and hitting .314 as a team. S&T (7-12, 6-7 GLVC) held the UMSL offense in check allowing three runs total and only 11 hits in the doubleheader.

The Tritons opened the scoring in the second inning getting back-to-back doubles from Ashleigh King and Katie Wood to make it 1-0. UMSL eventually loaded the bases with no one out, but Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) avoided any further damage by getting three straight groundouts to escape the jam.
The Tritons added another run in the fifth on a two-out double from Wood to make it 2-0.

The Lady Miners were held hitless until the sixth. Cailey Baker (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) broke up the no-hit bid with a single back up the middle to put two on with one out. After a strikeout by Kaylea Smith (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs), Kate Runyan (Crown Point, Ind./Boone Grove) blooped a single over the second baseman's head to score Kyra Slemp (Roeland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) and send Baker to third. Runyan took second on the throw home. Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) had a chance to give S&T the lead, but she struck out swinging to end the threat.

The Lady Miners finished the contest with two hits. Keal was the tough luck loser allowing two runs on six hits in seven innings of work. She walked three and struck out three in her outing.

In the second game S&T had its chances to score putting runners on base in every inning but the second. It had the winning run in scoring positions in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings, but couldn't get the all-important hit.

UMSL broke through in the eighth for the lone run. Jena Boudreau led the inning off with a double off the fence in left and went to third on a groundout. She scored on Madison Zbaraschuk's single into center.

The Lady Miners got a two-out walk in the home half of the eighth, but couldn't bring her around.

S&T outhit the Tritons 7-5 in the nightcap with seven different players recording a hit. Becca Strope (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) was the tough luck loser in game two. She went the distance allowing the one run on five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.

The Lady Miners return to action on Sunday when they host Maryville University beginning at 12 p.m.
