S&T drops two at Missouri-St. Louis

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners dropped both ends of its doubleheader at Missouri-St. Louis 6-0 and 12-4 in 6 innings on Sunday.

The Tritons (28-10, 19-3 GLVC) scored an unearned run in the first inning to take the early 1-0 advantage. The score remained that way until the fifth when UMSL scored three times with the big blow being a two-run home run to left-center with two outs in the inning.

The Tritons added two more in the sixth to finish off the scoring.
S&T (9-18, 8-13 GLVC) was held in check by Hannah Perryman. Perryman held the Lady Miners to three hits and struck out 14 S&T hitters. Kyra

Slemp, Kaylea Smith (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) and Jamie Hatlan (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit ) each had hits.

Becca Strope (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) suffered the loss allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout in 4.2 innings of work.

In the second game UMSL raced out to an early 3-0 lead hitting a pair of home runs in the bottom of the first. The Lady Miners responded with a run in the second. Smith led things off with a single and went to second on an error by the pitcher. Smith went to a third on a groundout by Kate Runyan (Crown Point, Ind./Boone Grove) and scored on Dana Lawson (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette)'s groundout.

The Tritons added three more in the bottom of the second to extend the lead to 6-1. S&T responded with three in the fifth to cut the deficit to 6-4.
The Lady Miners got back-to-back doubles from Smith and Runyan and a triple from Lawson. Hatlan drove in the third run of the inning singling to right, but was thrown out at second to end the inning.

UMSL got a lead-off homer in the bottom of the inning and then added five more runs in the sixth to end the game.

S&T finished with eight hits in the nightcap. Slemp and Smith combined for half of the hits. Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) took the loss allowing seven runs, four earned, on eight hits in four innings of work. She struck out one and didn't walk anyone.

The Lady Miners return home next Saturday to take on Rockhurst beginning at 12 p.m. S&T will honor its five seniors prior to the start of the doubleheader.
