Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROLLA, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners belted three home runs on its way to an 8-3 win over Illinois Springfield in the opening game of its doubleheader on Saturday. The second game was suspended in the top of the third with the Prairie Stars leading 5-1.

S&T (6-9, 5-4 GLVC) scored in the first inning for the third straight game when Kyra Slemp (Roeland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) launched a home run to center field to make it 1-0. It stayed that way until the third. Jamie Hatlan (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit ) hit a one out triple to right and then scored a batter later when Andi Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara ) singled to right. An error put runners at first and third and Kaylea Smith (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) cleared them hitting a towering home run to right to increase the lead to 5-0.

UIS (12-14, 6-5 GLVC) answered back with three in the top of the fifth to cut the Lady Miner lead to 5-3. S&T answered back with two in the bottom of the frame as Hatlan and Davis both singled to start the inning. Slemp delivered again roping a double into the gap in left center to make it 7-3. The Lady Miners added another in the sixth on Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf)'s solo homer to left center to extend the lead back to five.

S&T finished the game with 10 hits led by Hatlan with three while Davis and Slemp added two apiece. Hatlan and Davis each scored two runs. Slemp and Smith had three RBIs apiece. Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) got the win allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four and walking one in five innings of work.

In the second game the Prairie Stars scored two runs in the first to take the early lead. Smith homered again to lead off the second to cut the lead in half, but UIS scored three times in the third and was still batting when the game was called due to rain. The game could be finished at a later date.

S&T is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Springfield, Mo., to take on Drury in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
