(Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T women's basketball team looks to close out the 2013 portion of its schedule on positive note when it travels to Arkadelphia, Ark., on Saturday to take on Henderson State at 2 p.m. The Lady Miners have dropped their last two contests by an average of 16.5 points, but can end the year on a happy note with a win against the Lady Reddies.

In its last outing S&T struggled in the first half to get into an offensive rhythm turning the ball over 12 times resulting in 18 points for Lindenwood. Despite those struggles the Lady Miners still shot 48 percent in the frame and trailed by just six at the break after trailing by as many as 14 in the half.

S&T scored on its first possession of the second half to cut the margin to four, but the Lady Lions answered with an 18-4 run over a four minute stretch to push the lead to 18 points. The Lady Miners held Lindenwood without a field goal over the final 5:32, but unfortunately the Lady Lions went 13-for-14 at the foul line during that stretch to hold off an S&T rally.

Henderson State is currently 6-2 on the season and riding a four-game winning streak heading into its contest on Thursday night at Division I Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. The Lady Reddies picked up a 79-74 win at Texas A&M-Commerce on Tuesday night behind 30 points from Aungelique Sledge and 21 from Krystal Beachum. Saturday's contest will be the third in five days for Henderson.

The Lady Reddies are averaging 67.8 points per game and are led in scoring by Sledge with 20.8 ppg while Beachum is averaging almost 13 per contest and Tiara Davis averages 10.4 off the bench. Davis also leads the team in rebounding with nearly nine rebounds per outing.  Defensively HSU is allowing only 61.9 points per game and holding opponents to just 38.2 percent shooting from the floor and are even better defending the three-point line at just 30.8 percent. Opponents have struggled at the foul line converting on only 56.8 percent of their attempts.
