(Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T volleyball team will conclude its three match road swing on Tuesday night traveling to Springfield to take on Drury beginning at 7 p.m. The Miners return home this weekend to face Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis.
S&T went 1-2 last week, but hung with fourth ranked Central Missouri and Rockhurst in the two losses. The Miners win last week was a hard fought three set win at William Jewell.
Defense has been the story this year for S&T as it ranks amongst the GLVC leaders in blocks (2
nd), opponent hitting percentage (3
rd) and seventh in digs.
Krista Haslag (Linn, Mo./Helias ) leads the conference in blocking averaging 1.26 per set and is 12
th in all of NCAA Division II.
Drury comes into Tuesday's match with a record of 7-9 overall and is 2-4 in the GLVC. The Panthers split their two matches last week falling at Rockhurst 3-0 last Friday and then swept William Jewell on Saturday.
Drury has an attack percentage of .170 (752k/366e/2268) and is averaging nearly 12 kills per set. Junior Sara Borneman leads the attack with 208 kills while Kaliegh Cole and Chloe Foster have 151 and 95 respectively. Alexis Dutt and Brooke Antenen have split time running the offense this season as both are averaging more than seven assists per set. Bridget Justis has recorded 268 digs from the librero position.
Tuesday night's match will be the 11
th meeting all-time between S&T and Drury with the Miners holding a 6-4 edge. The Panthers snapped
S&T's five match winning streak in the series with a 3-0 win last October. Drury has won three of the five meetings played in Springfield.
The Miners return home on Friday evening to face a Maryville Saint club that is 6-11 on the year, 1-6 in league play starting at 7 p.m. The Saints were swept last weekend by Quincy and 18
th ranked Truman State.
Maryville is hitting .148 percent as a team while allowing its opposition to hit .202. Laura Welling leads the Saint attack registering 135 kills while Mikaela Lahm and Demi Maniaci have contributed 122 and 118 kills respectively. Taryn Trubich and Hannah Seitter are both averaging over four assists per set while Ali Lampen is averaging 5.16 digs per set.
Friday's match will be the eighth meeting all-time with Maryville with S&T leading 7-0.
On Saturday the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis make their way to Rolla to conclude the weekend beginning at 3 p.m. UMSL will host a non-conference match against Lindenwood on Tuesday and will then travel down to Springfield to face Drury on Friday.
The Tritons have an attack percentage of .183 on the season and have allowed the opposition to hit .183 as well. UMSL is averaging 11.5 kills per set while allowing 13 kills a set. Chelsea Burkle leads the Triton attack averaging 3.66 kills per set while Haley Brightwell and Jory Siebenmorgen are averaging 1.98 and 1.88 kills respectively. Lindsay Meyer runs the offense for UMSL dishing out an average of nearly six assists per set. Emily Bragaw is the leader on the defensive side of the ball averaging 3.63 digs per set.
The match on Saturday will be the 12th meeting all-time with the Tritons. UMSL leads the series 7-4, but S&T has won four of the last five meetings and three in a row.
