Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners played to a
0-0 draw against ninth ranked Quincy University on Sunday afternoon at the S&T Soccer Field. Quincy outshot S&T by an 8-7 margin, but the Lady Miners put five of theirs on goal compared to two for the Hawks.
There were a total of four shots in the opening 45 minutes two by each side. Quincy (10-0-3, 8-0-2 GLVC) controlled play for most of the half and finished it with five corner kicks. S&T's (3-4-3 overall and GLVC) best chance to score came in the 22
nd minute on a blast by
Catherine Hawn (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) which was saved by the keeper.
Sammy Minea (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley North ) had a chance near the end of the half as well.
The second half was more of the same with the Hawks controlling play, but the Lady Miner defense stood tall and forced Quincy to shoot from distance. Each side had three shots in the period with two apiece on goal.
Anna Fink (Fulton, Mo./Fulton) nearly scored the game winner with 2:06 left in regulation. She hit a shot from 25 yards out that Jodi Chapie stopped but couldn't control and the ball went out of bounds for a corner kick. S&T was unable to capitalize on the set piece.
The Hawks had three shots in the overtime periods compared to S&T's two. Hawn again had a chance to score blasting a shot from 20 yards out that Chapie saved with just over three minutes left in the second overtime.
Hawn led the Lady Miners with two shots while
Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) made two saves recording her third shutout of the season.
S&T returns to action this coming Friday traveling to Indiana to take on the Greyhounds of Indianapolis. The match kicks-off at 4 p.m. (CST).
