S&T falls to #22 Truman State 2-0

Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miner soccer team fell to the 22nd ranked Truman State Bulldogs 2-0 on Friday night at the S&T Soccer Field. The Bulldogs outshot S&T 18-9 and 8-1 in shots on goal.

The opening frame was scoreless for a majority of it despite Truman (9-1-2, 8-0-1 GLVC) outshooting S&T (3-4-2 overall and GLVC) by an 11-1 margin. Madison Gibler (Kansas City, Mo./Staley) kept the Lady Miners in the contest by making three saves.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the final second of the first half off a corner kick. Megan Frkovic sent the ball into the box and it was banged around going to Stephanie Williams. Williams found Lauren Seawright who headed it in before the horn sounded.

S&T had four chances to tie the game in the first 16 minutes of the second stanza, but couldn't get anything on goal. Truman got its second goal on a counter in the 63rd minute. Trisha Shoemaker took a shot that hit off the post and Megan Whitehead was there to put the rebound home.

The Lady Miners had a few more chances late in the period, but couldn't get one past the Bulldog keeper.

S&T outshot Truman by an 8-7 margin in the second half, but the 'Dogs put four of their shots on goal compared to one for the Lady Miners. Ekholm led S&T with three shots, one on goal. Gibler finished the match with six saves.

Shoemaker recorded five shots for Truman while Emily Bozdeck stopped the only shot she faced.

The Lady Miners return to action on Sunday when they host ninth ranked Quincy beginning at 12 p.m.
