Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners used a balanced offensive attack to sweep past Southwestern Oklahoma
3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-18) on Saturday morning in the Days Inn&Suites/Super 8 Middle of Everywhere Classic. S&T hit 31.4 percent for the match and finished with 43 kills.
The Lady Miners (3-4) got off to a fast start scoring three of the first four points and wouldn't look back as they quickly extended the lead to 12-4. The Bulldogs got as close as six in the frame but S&T put the set finishing on a 13-4 run to cruise to the victory. They hit 50 percent in the opening frame (13k/1e/24ta) and held SWOSU to a negative hitting percentage.
The Lady Miners got down early in set two 6-2 before coming back to tie things at 7-7. It remained tight with the score tied at 12 when S&T began to pull away with a 9-3 run to take command of the set at 21-15. Southwestern Oklahoma wouldn't get any closer than five the rest of the way as the Lady Miners won 25-17. S&T hit only 20.5 percent but held the Bulldogs to just 7.3 percent in the set.
The Bulldogs took a brief lead in set three at 2-1 before the Lady Miners took control of the set. S&T extended its 11-10 lead with a 7-3 run to build an 18-13 advantage. SWOSU pulled to within 20-16 but the Lady Miners finished strong scoring five of the final seven points to get the sweep 25-18.
S&T finished with 43 kills and was led by
Kelly Kosmopolis (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) with eight.
Torrie Rupe (Wichita, Kan./Collegiate) and
Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) had seven apiece.
Jennifer Costello (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South ) dished out 32 assists and
Jocelyn DeMotte (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) had 18 digs.
Alison Cole led Southwestern Oklahoma with eight kills.
S&T plays again on Saturday at 5 p.m., against Northwest Missouri.
