Box Score (St. Louis, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Miner volleyball squad earned its seventh straight win sweeping past the Maryville Saints
3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-16) on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis, Mo. The seven game winning streak is the third longest in school history behind the 11-game and eight-game streaks from last season.
The Miners (11-5, 7-0 GLVC) got off to an extremely fast start on Saturday as they scored 15 of the first 16 points and never looked back on their way to the 25-13 win. S&T hit only .128 percent in the frame and was led by
Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) and
Krista Haslag (Linn, Mo./Helias ) with three kills apiece. The Miners defense though held the Saints (2-14, 1-6 GLVC) to a negative .122 hitting percentage.
The second set was tied at 4-all early when the Miners took control of the set with a 5-1 run. Maryville got as close as two points. S&T was able to pull away down the stretch to take the commanding 2-0 lead. The Miners hit .243 percent in the frame and had 14 kills led by Mueller with five while Haslag and
Jackie Zellmer (Nixa, Mo./Nixa) had three kills each. The Saints hit .250 percent and had 15 kills. Laura Welling recorded seven of those.
S&T raced out to a 5-1 lead in the final set before Maryville closed to within 6-5. The Miners extended their lead to 14-8 and would eventually stretch their lead out to nine points by the end of the set. S&T hit a match best .310 percent in the final set and had 12 kills. Mueller and Haslag combined for seven of those. The Saints were held to .065 percent and had nine kills in the frame. Welling and Samantha Callahan had four apiece.
The Miners finished the match with 37 kills and hit .219 percent. Mueller led the way with 11 kills while Haslag added nine. Zellmer and
Torrie Rupe (Wichita, Kan./Collegiate) added five kills apiece.
Jennifer Costello (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South ) dished out 27 assists and had 10 digs.
Jocelyn DeMotte (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) finished with 12 digs and
Jennifer Kegler (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy), became the second player in school history with 1,000 career digs, finished with 10 digs.
Maryville hit only .056 percent for the match and had 30 kills led by Welling with 13 and Callahan with seven. Taryn Trubich had 14 assists while Hannah Seitter had 13 digs.
S&T is back at home on Saturday, Oct. 6, to face Wisconsin-Parkside beginning at 5 p.m.
