Box Score (Quincy, Ill.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners gave it all they had, but fell to the 10
th ranked Quincy Hawks
2-1 on Friday evening in Quincy, Ill.
The Hawks (7-0, 5-0 GLVC) dominated the opening half outshooting S&T (4-3, 2-3 GLVC) 8-1 but were held off the scoreboard because of the five saves made by
Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) in goal. QU had a chance in the 20
th minute, but Kristine Vogt's shot went off the crossbar.
The Hawks scored the game's first goal three minutes into the second half. Brittany Casey shot it in from 12 yards out off a pass from Jaclyn Mastroianni and Emma Walker for her sixth goal of the season. Sam Andert made it 2-0 nearly three minutes later off a pass from Vogt.
Kimberly Ekholm (Houston, Texas/Cy-Springs ) put the Lady Miners on the board in the 69
th minute when she headed the ball from 10 yards out off a free kick from
Kendra Wood (Rolla, Mo./Rolla). Ekholm nearly had the equalizer 0:30 later, but Tori Champagne made the save to keep Quincy in front.
The Hawks tried to extend their lead late in the second half, but Deister made same big saves to keep S&T within striking distance.
Quincy finished with an 18-4 edge in shots, 13-4 in shots on goal. Deister finished the game with 11 saves for S&T. Ekholm took two of the four shots.
The Lady Miners are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Illinois Springfield beginning at 12 p.m.
