Box Score 2 (Springfield, Mo.) – It was a tough night for the Missouri S&T Lady Miners as they were swept in a doubleheader at Drury
6-1 and
4-0 on Wednesday evening in Springfield, Mo.
In the opener on Wednesday the Panthers (33-16, 19-11 GLVC) broke on top with three runs in the third. Amber Hayden had the big blow hitting a two run double to right center. S&T (14-33, 11-19, GLVC) got a run back in the fourth.
Lauren Briggs (LaMonte, Mo./Knob Noster) led off with a double to left center. She came around to score on
Kaylea Smith (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs)'s single through the left side of the infield to make it 3-1.
Drury added two more in the fourth and one in the fifth for the final margin.
The Lady Miners finished the contest with four hits. Briggs,
Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf), Smith and
Kate Runyan (Crown Point, Ind./Boone Grove) accounted for the hits.
Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) suffered the loss allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.
In the nightcap the Panthers jumped on top with two runs in the second inning. Erin Romph executed a perfect squeeze play to drive in Marissa Valdez with the first run. A force play at second retired Romph for the second out.
Maggie Schroeder (Bonner Springs, Kan./Basehor-Linwood) tried to complete the double play but threw it away allowing Regina Norris to go to second. She scored on Stacy Razo's double to left center.
Drury added to its lead with two more in the third with both runs coming after the first two were retired.
S&T was held hitless despite hitting several hard hit balls right at the Panther defenders. Smith drew a pair of walks in the contest.
Keal suffered the loss allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits with a strikeout in 2.2 innings of work.
The Lady Miners are back in action on Saturday taking on William Jewell in Liberty, Mo., beginning at 12 p.m.
