Box Score 2 (St. Louis, Mo.) - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners ran its winning streak to three straight with a sweep over the Saints of Maryville on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis, Mo. S&T won the opener
2-1 and the nightcap
6-1 to improve to 10-23, 7-11 in conference play.
In the opener on Saturday S&T jumped on top in the top of the third.
Maggie Schroeder (Bonner Springs, Kan./Basehor-Linwood) led off with a double to left center and advanced to third on a single by
Jackie Lybarger (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West). Schroeder tried to score on
Cassie Rizzo (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves)'s grounder back to the pitcher but was out on the play.
Lauren Briggs (LaMonte, Mo./Knob Noster) gave the Lady Miners the lead with a single to left scoring that scored Lybarger. An error by the left fielder allowed Rizzo to score and sent Briggs to third.
That would be all the runs
Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) needed as she held the Maryville (8-24, 3-15 GLVC) bats in check for six innings shutting them out until a lead-off homer in the seventh. She set the next three hitters down though to earn her sixth win of the season. Keal allowed the one run on five hits with three strikeouts against two walks.
S&T had six hits in the contest with six different players having a hit.
S&T scored first again in the second game of the twinbill.
Amber Duncan (Centralia, Mo./Centralia) reached on an error by the third baseman to start the third inning.
Jamie Hatlan (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit ) advanced her to second as she reached on a bunt single. Briggs sacrificed the runners up to second and third with only one out.
Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) drove home Duncan with a single down the left field line and advanced to second on the throw.
Kaylea Smith (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) made it 2-0 scoring Hatlan on a fielder's choice.
The Lady Miners added to their lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth.
Kate Runyan (Crown Point, Ind./Boone Grove) led off with a single to short and advanced to second on a sacrifice off the bat of Schroeder. She advanced to third on a single by
Elise Kittrell (Boca Raton, Fla./West Boca Raton) and scored on
Amber Duncan (Centralia, Mo./Centralia)'s single. In the fifth Smith hit a solo homer down the left field line with one out for her sixth roundtripper of the season.
S&T put the game away in the seventh with two more runs as
Rachel Glenn (Chicago, Ill./Marion Catholic) doubled home two runs to make it 6-0. The Saints got a tally in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn't enough.
The Lady Miners had 11 hits in the second game led by Briggs, Smith and Glenn with two apiece. Smith had a pair of RBIs while Michaelis, Glenn and Duncan had one each. Kittrell went the distance allowing a run on eight hits with three strikeouts to win her second straight decision.
S&T is back in action on Sunday afternoon when it takes on Missouri-St. Louis in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
