Lady Miners snap 10-game losing streak with comeback win at Lincoln

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (Jefferson City, Mo.) - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners snapped its 10 game losing streak with a thrilling 12-10 win in eight innings over Lincoln on Tuesday afternoon in Jefferson City, Mo. S&T scored four in the seventh to take the lead. Lincolnd tied it in the seventh but the Lady Miners scored three times in the 8th to take the win. The Blue Tigers won the opener 4-2.

S&T (7-22) got off to a fast start in the nightcap as it scored twice in the first on Becca Strope (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville)'s two run double to left center. Lincoln (8-24) tied it in the bottom of the inning. After a scoreless second the Lady Miners scored three in the third. Lauren Briggs (LaMonte, Mo./Knob Noster) led off the inning with a home run to right center. After a walk to Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf), Kaylea Smith (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) made it 5-2 hitting a two run blast to left center.

The Blue Tigers got one back in the home half of the third on a solo home run from Sam Kircher. LU took the lead in the fourth scoring five times with two outs. S&T threatened in the sixth loading the bases with no one out but couldn't deliver the big hit.

The Lady Miners rallied in the seventh, with one out Dana Lawson (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) was hit by a pitch and went all the way to third on a single by Kate Runyan (Crown Point, Ind./Boone Grove) and an error on the right fielder. Maggie Schroeder (Bonner Springs, Kan./Basehor-Linwood) made it 8-7 lining a two run double into the right center cap. She moved to third on a single by Erin Premer (McCook, Neb./McCook) and scored the tying run on an error by the second baseman. Briggs singled home Premer with the go ahead run to make it 9-8.

Lincoln tied it with a two out single in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

The game went to the eighth and the international tiebreaker rule came into effect. Michaelis started the inning on second and went to third on Smith's single to left. Smith advanced to second on a defensive indifference. Lawson drew a walk to load the bases with no one out. Runyan grounded into a fielder's choice to the shortstop as Michaelis was thrown out at the plate. Schroeder came through again with the game winning hit lining a two run single to right scoring Smith and Lawson. Runyan went to third on the play and later scored on a wild pitch.

The Blue Tigers scored one in the bottom of the frame but it wasn't enough.

S&T had 12 hits in the contest led by Smith and Schroeder with three each. Schroeder drove in four runs while Briggs, Smith and Strope had two each.

Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) got the win pitching the final two innings giving up a run on three hits with a strikeout.

In the opener on Tuesday, Lincoln scored one in the first and three in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. All the runs were unearned. S&T made it 4-2 in the fifth on RBI singles from Schroeder and Michaelis. The Lady Miners loaded the bases with one out in the seventh but Michaelis lined into a double play to the first baseman to end the game.

S&T had seven hits in game one led by Strope and Schroeder with two each. Keal went the distance allowing four runs, all unearned, on five hits with four K's and a walk.

The Lady Miners are back in action on Wednesday evening traveling to St. Charles, Mo., to take on Lindenwood University in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
