Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (Rolla, Mo.) - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners were swept by William Jewell 5-2 and 2-0 in its doubleheader on Sunday at the S&T Softball Field.

In the opener on Sunday William Jewell (12-11, 7-7 GLVC) scored a run in the opening inning to break on top. Faith Song was hit by a pitch to lead things off then stole second on a strikeout. With two outs she scored on Taylor Brown's single to left which fell in front of a sliding Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf). S&T tied things in the bottom of the inning. With one out Maggie Schroeder (Bonner Springs, Kan./Basehor-Linwood) reached safely on a throwing error that pulled the first baseman off the bag. With two outs Rachel Glenn (Chicago, Ill./Marion Catholic) worked a walk then Kate Runyan (Crown Point, Ind./Boone Grove) blooped a single to right center to score Schroeder. Glenn advanced to third on the play and Runyan went into to second. That would be all they would get as a flyout to right ended the inning.

The Lady Miners had chances to take the lead in both the second and third innings but left two on in the second and left them loaded in the third. The Cardinals broke the 1-1 tie in the fourth as Song hit a three-run double to center field and then she scored on Amanda Storm's single back up the middle.

S&T got a run back in the bottom of the inning. Lauren Briggs (LaMonte, Mo./Knob Noster) led off and walked and went to second on Michaelis's sacrifice bunt. With two outs Kaylea Smith (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) worked a walk. The catcher tried to throw behind Smith but her throw went into right field and Briggs took advantage scoring all the way from second. That was the only run it got out of the frame.

The Lady Miners had five hits in the contest led by Runyan's two. They stranded 10 runners in the opening game. Becca Strope (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) suffered the loss allowing five runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and a pair of walks in 4.0 innings of work.

William Jewell broke on top first in the second game as well as Ashlee Nation hit a solo homer to center field with one out in the second. S&T didn't get its first base runner until two were out in the fourth on Smith's single to left. A fielding error by the pitcher allowed Glenn to reach putting two on, but Katie Heidinger (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) lined out to right to end the threat.

The Cardinals added to their lead in the sixth. With one out Rachel Hayden doubled to right center then scored on Emily Cline's single with two outs to make it 2-0. The Lady Miners tried to rally in the home half of the sixth. Smith narrowly missed hitting a homer as her drive hit off the top of the fence in left for a double. Lindsey DeForest (Fulton, Mo./North Callaway) ran for her and moved to third on a wild pitch. Glenn walked to put runners on the corner, but the big hit eluded S&T as a groundout ended the frame.

The Lady Miners were held to three hits in game two with two of those belonging to Smith. Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) pitched a complete game allowing two runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and no walks.

S&T is back in action on Tuesday afternoon when it travels to Jefferson City, Mo., to take on Lincoln University beginning at 2 p.m.
