(Rolla, Mo.) - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners return home this weekend looking to reverse its fortunes that've seen them drop four straight and eight of nine when it hosts Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. S&T will also host William Jewell on Sunday at 12 p.m.
The Lady Miners have been solid at home so far this season having won five of their six contests and are hitting .318 as a team while holding their opposition to nearly 100 points lower at .222. S&T is scoring over five runs per contest in those six games while yielding 3.5 to its opponents. The pitching has been solid as well with an earned run average of 2.39 and have permitted only 15 earned runs.
Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) and
Becca Strope (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) have combined to win five of the six games.
S&T is currently sitting in fifth place in the GLVC's West Divison, but is within striking of distance of the top spot. Illinois Springfield currently holds the top spot in the division with a mark of 6-4.
Rockhurst enters this weekend's action with a record of 6-17 overall, 4-8 in the GLVC and are currently a game back of the Lady Miners in the standings. The Hawks swept S&T last season in Kansas City winning by identical 6-0 scores. Alex Jacobson leads the team hitting .370 with four home runs and is tied for the team lead in RBIs with 11. In the circle, Kayla Hoyer leads the way with a record of 5-7 and an ERA of 2.26. She's allowed 41 runs, 26 earned, in 80.2 innings of work and has allowed 72 hits while striking out 46 and walking 24. Opponents are hitting just .233 against her.
Rockhurst started league play at 1-7 but won three of four at home last weekend splitting with Maryville and sweeping Missouri-St. Louis.
On Sunday GLVC newcomer William Jewell will make its way to Rolla. The Cardinals are 10-9, 5-5 in league play heading into Saturday's games at Drury. They're led offensively by Emily Cline and Rachel Hayden who are hitting .367 and .362 respectively. Hayden and Ashlee Nation lead the team in home runs with two each while Nation and Faith Song have driven in 10 runs each. Maria Buckingham is the team's top pitcher with a record of 6-3 and an ERA of 2.78. She has tossed four shutouts so far in nine starts and has seven complete games. She's allowed 23 runs, 22 earned, in 55.1 innings of work and has allowed 45 hits with 74 strikeouts against 20 walks. Opponents are hitting only .218 against her.
