Box Score 2 (Quincy, Ill.) - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners offensive woes continued on Sunday as it was held to just four hits in a doubleheader sweep at Quincy
1-0 and
2-1 on Sunday afternoon in Quincy, Ill. In its last six games S&T has scored two or more runs just twice.
The opener on Sunday was a pitcher's duel between
Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) and Lauren Francis. Francis allowed a one out single in the first to
Maggie Schroeder (Bonner Springs, Kan./Basehor-Linwood). Schroeder advanced to second but didn't score. Francis retired 20 straight hitters after that single. Keal set down the first nine hitters she faced before running into trouble in the fourth. She allowed a lead-off double the runner advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch.
Keal was the tough luck loser allowing the run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts and a walk.
The Lady Miners plated the first run in game two scoring in the third inning.
Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) started things off with a one out single to left. She advanced to second on an error by the short stop which allowed Schroeder to reach. After a pop out
Kaylea Smith (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) drove in Michaelis with a single to right.
The lead held until the sixth. Alanna Viken led off with a double to right then scored on Ashleigh Roscetti's single to right. The Hawks loaded the bases with two outs but
Elise Kittrell (Boca Raton, Fla./West Boca Raton) got out of the jam. Quincy won the game in the seventh getting a lead-off double from Monica Gray to right center. After a sacrifice bunt moved her to third for the first out Keal came on in relief and walked Viken. Viken advanced to second on the defensive indifference. Keal got Sara Stafford to ground out to third for the second out, but couldn't get out of the jam as Emma Topps singled to left to win the game.
S&T had just three hits in the contest with
Kate Runyan (Crown Point, Ind./Boone Grove), Smith and Michaelis having one apiece. Kittrell went the first 6.1 innings allowing both runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
The Lady Miners (6-17, 5-7 GLVC) are back at home on Wednesday afternoon taking on Ouachita Baptist beginning at 2 p.m.
