2/12/2012 5:56:00 PM

Box Score (Arkadelphia, Ark.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners had runners on base in every inning but were able to cash in only once in its 3-1 loss to Delta State on Sunday afternoon in Arkadelphia, Ark.

S&T (0-3) loaded the bases in the top of the first with two outs on a pair of walks and a single from Kaylea Smith (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) but a strike out ended the inning. Delta State (3-3) put two on with one out themselves in the bottom of the frame but Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) got a strikeout and a line out to Lindsey DeForest (Fulton, Mo./North Callaway) to end the threat.

The Lady Miners got a two-out single from Lauren Briggs (LaMonte, Mo./Knob Noster) in the second but couldn't bring her around.

In the third S&T put two runners thanks to a pair of errors from the Lady Statesmen defense, but once again weren't able to cash in.

DSU broke on top in the fourth scoring an unearned run on a throwing error by Smith.

The Lady Miners tied it in the fifth on a two-out single by Kate Runyan (Crown Point, Ind./Boone Grove) scoring Kasilda Miller (Bourbon, Mo./) from second. Smith and Runyan each moved up a base on the play and S&T had a golden opportunity to take the lead. It wasn't meant to be though as Dana Lawson (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) grounded out to the pitcher to end the inning.

The Lady Statesmen regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth taking advantage of another error to make it 2-1.

The Lady Miners threatened again in the sixth but couldn't take advantage of a two out walk. Delta State then added to its lead in the bottom of the frame with a single to left with runners on the corner.

S&T got a lead-off double in the seventh from Rachel Glenn (Chicago, Ill./Marion Catholic) to bring the tying run to the plate but couldn't drive her in.

Briggs led the offense with two hits in the contest. Glenn, Smith and Runyan had a hit each.

Keal was the tough luck loser giving up three runs, one earned, in six innings of work. She allowed eight hits while striking out two and walking one.

S&T is scheduled to return to action on Friday, February 24th against Missouri Southern State University in Bentonville, Ark., beginning at 12:30 p.m.
