Box Score (Lebanon, Ill.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners gave up two goals in the first 20 minutes and were unable to recover in its
2-0 loss at McKendree on Friday night. The game was delayed 45 minutes in the second half due to lightening.
McKendree (6-3-1, 5-3-1 GLVC) scored in the ninth minute when Carlee Luehmann put in her third goal of the season. The Bearcats added another goal nine minutes later when Cassi Kaiping also scored her third goal of the season to make it 2-0.
S&T (5-6, 3-6 GLVC) had an opportunity to score in the 23
rd minute when
Kimberly Ekholm (Houston, Texas/Cy-Springs ) sent in a high shot from outside the 18-yard box that was knocked away at the last second by the keeper.
Kendra Wood (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) also had a chance right before the end of the half but her shot was saved as well.
McKendree outshoot the Lady Miners by a 12-2 margin in the opening half and put four of those shots on goal.
S&T had a chance in the 57
th minute to cut the lead in half but
Suzy DeWael (McCordsville, Ind./Mt. Vernon High School)'s header attempt off a corner kick from Wood was saved and then she had another chance in the same sequence wide left. Ekholm had another chance in the 65
th minute that was saved as well.
The Lady Miners outshot the Bearcats 5-2 in the second half, but McKendree finished the game with a 14-7 edge in shots. Ekholm had two of the four shots on goal while
Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) made four saves.
S&T will be back in action on Sunday morning when it travels to Louisville, Ky., to take on Bellarmine at 11 a.m. (Central Time).
