(Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners fell in its home finale to 7th ranked Rockhurst 6-1 on Sunday afternoon in Rolla.
S&T (6-10, 4-10 GLVC) broke on top early in the contest as Colleen Lewis (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall Academy) put away a pass from Lauren Todd (Raytown, Mo./Raytown South) and Kimberly Ekholm (Houston, Texas/Cy-Springs ) for her first of the season in the fourth minute. The Hawks (12-1-3, 10-1-3 GLVC) answered just over a minute later when Taylor Skala put home a shot from Haley Long inside the near post. The game remained tied the rest of the first though Rockhurst controlled play outshooting the Lady Miners 9-2.
S&T had a chance to retake the lead early in the second half. Kendra Wood (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) played a ball in off a restart that just bounced just over the crossbar. The Hawks scored the game winner in the 56th minute off a goal from Nicky Alfonsin from Jessica Cook. Rockhurst added goals in the 73rd, 75th , 87th and 88th minutes for the final margin.
Lewis and Todd each had a shot on goal for S&T. Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) made seven saves.
The Lady Miners close out the 2012 season on Wednesday when they travel to Springfield, Mo., for a contest with Drury University beginning at 6 p.m.
