(Somers, Wis.) – On a very cold and blustery day in Wisconsin the Missouri S&T Lady Miners took advantage of the wind hitting five home runs to erase an early 5-0 deficit to come back and win the first game of the doubleheader 14-10 over Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday. Parkside won the nightcap 5-4 on a bases loaded single in the bottom of the seventh. The two teams combined to hit 13 home runs in the doubleheader.

S&T (8-20, 4-8 GLVC) spotted the Rangers (9-17, 5-3 GLVC) an early 2-0 lead in the first on a two-out RBI double by Krista Kelly down the left field line. A throwing error allowed UWP to get its second run.

The Lady Miners had a chance to tie the game in the second getting runners at second and third with one out but back-to-back ground outs ended the threat.

The Rangers added to its lead in the bottom of the inning with three runs. The big blow in the inning was a two-run double off the bat of Kirsten Luevano. Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) avoided further damage as she got a ground out to end the inning.

The S&T bats came alive in the third. With one out Jamie Hatlan (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit ) singled to center then scored on Cassie Rizzo (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves)'s triple to right. Kassi Deibert (Highland, Ill./Highland) brought the Lady Miners to within 5-3 hitting a two-run bomb to center field. Kristen Drage (Morganfield, Ky./Union County ) kept the rally going with a single to right center. Kaylea Smith (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) tied the game with a two-run shot to left. Kate Runyan (Crown Point, Ind./Boone Grove) kept it going with her first collegiate home run to make it 6-5. Maggie Schroeder (Bonner Springs, Kan./Basehor-Linwood) made it three straight homers with a solo shot to left. The Lady Miners sent 10 hitters to the plate in the frame and scored seven times on seven hits.

Parkside didn't score in the third but added single tallies in the fourth and fifth to tie the game at 7-7.

In the sixth S&T took advantage of some wildness by the Rangers. Adrienne Kruse (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) led off the frame with a walk. Lauren Briggs (LaMonte, Mo./Knob Noster) reached on a fielder's choice as the pitcher made a throwing error to try and get Kruse at second. After a strikeout, Rizzo walked to load the bases. Deibert drove in her third run of the game with a bases loaded walk to give the Lady Miners the lead back. Drage added to it with a two-run single to left driving in Briggs and Rizzo. That would be all they got in the sixth as back-to-back groundouts ended the frame.

The Rangers hit two solo homers in the bottom of the inning to get within 10-9 but Keal was able to get out of the inning with the lead intact.

In the seventh Schroeder led off with a double to right center then moved to third on a passed ball. Kruse gave S&T back its three run cushion with a two-run blast to left. After an out Hatlan started another rally with a single to center. She then stole second and Rizzo received a walk. Deibert flew out to right for the second out then Drage came through with another two-run single to make it 14-9.

Parkside got a lead-off homer in the bottom of the seventh to make it 14-10 but Keal slammed the door shut retiring three of the next four hitters to secure the win.

Drage and Hatlan had three hits apiece to lead the Lady Miners. Smith, Runyan and Schroeder chipped in with two hits apiece. Eight players had a hit for S&T.

Keal went the distance to improve her record to 6-8 on the year.

In the second game the Lady Miners jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Deibert's second home run of the afternoon with two outs in the opening frame.

Parkside tied the game in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch with a runner at third.

S&T regained the lead in the second as Hatlan grounded into a force play with the bases loaded scoring Schroeder.

It remained that way until the bottom of the third when Christine Holthus hit a solo shot to left to tie it.

The Lady Miners regained the lead in the fifth when Jennifer Sardigal (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) led off the inning with a solo shot to left. After a flyout, Drage singled to center. Stefani Moore (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo ) came on to pinch run for her and promptly stole second. After a strikeout, Runyan singled back up the middle to drive in Moore and giving S&T a 4-2 advantage.

The lead wouldn't last though as Holthus and Luevano hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the frame to knot it back up.

Parkside had a chance to take the lead in the sixth getting runners at second and third with two outs but couldn't break the tie.

The Lady Miners put the potential go-ahead run on second with two outs in the seventh but couldn't score.
