(Kansas City, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners struggled on both sides of the ball all day long as it was swept in a doubleheader at Rockhurst 6-0 and 6-0 on Sunday afternoon at Loyola Park in Kansas City, Mo.
The Lady Miner (12-26, 7-13 GLVC) offense had a total of 10 hits in the doubleheader loss as it fell a couple spots out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference tournament.
S&T's defense wasn't much better as it committed four errors on the afternoon which lead to seven unearned runs for the Hawks (15-25, 8-12 GLVC).
Rockhurst scored two runs in the second inning of game one and then broke it open with a four spot in the fifth inning. Five of the six runs scored were unearned.
Kaylea Smith (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) had two hits in the opener while Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) took the loss allowing all six runs on nine hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
In the nightcap the Hawks scored in every inning but the second tallying single runs in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings. They put a two spot on the board in the fifth.
Kayla Hoyer held the Lady Miners to just four hits in game two while striking out two.
Keal went the distance allowing all six runs, four earned, on 12 hits. She walked two and struck out two.
S&T is scheduled to return to the diamond on Tuesday afternoon when it travels up the road to Jefferson City to take on the Lincoln Blue Tigers in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
