(Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners snapped its nine-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Kentucky Wesleyan in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. The Panthers won game two 5-1 to earn the split.

Saturday's games were the conference openers for both teams as S&T (2-12, 1-1 GLVC) struck first with pair of two out runs in the opening frame. Kassi Deibert (Highland, Ill./Highland) doubled to deep center field scoring Maggie Schroeder (Bonner Springs, Kan./Basehor-Linwood). Kaylea Smith (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) then singled home Deibert with a shot back up the middle. The Lady Miners loaded the bases and had a chance for more but couldn't add to the lead.

Kentucky Wesleyan (2-9, 1-1 GLVC) had multiple opportunities in the first three innings but stranded five runners. It got on the board in the fourth with an unearned run on a pair of errors by S&T's defense.

The Lady Miners got that run back in the bottom of the fourth when Deibert drove in Jamie Hatlan (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit ) with a bullet single to right. S&T had the chance for more with runners at the corner and just one out but couldn't add to the lead.

The Panthers threatened again in the fifth putting two on with one out but Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) got a double play ball to short to get out of the jam. KWC threatened again in the seventh loading the bases with no one out. Keal got Kayla Meny to strike out swing then got Meagen Sallee to end the game by grounding into a double play to second.

Deibert and Kate Runyan (Crown Point, Ind./Boone Grove) combined for four of S&T's eight hits in the ball game. Deibert also drove in two of the three runs. Keal earned her first win of the season tossing a complete game six-hitter allowing one run, unearned. She allowed six free passes while striking out three.

In game two the Panthers struck first scoring three times in the second with the big blow being a two-run single to left center off the bat of Katy Kruse. KWC added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

S&T struggled to get its offense going in game two unable to piece together a rally until the sixth inning. Deibert started it off with a double to center then scored on Kristen Drage (Morganfield, Ky./Union County )'s single up the middle.

Deibert had two hits in game two as well. Four other players had one.

Drage took the loss allowing all five runs, three earned, on eight hits against two walks and a pair of strikeouts in six innings of work. Lauren Briggs (LaMonte, Mo./Knob Noster) pitched a perfect seventh.

The Lady Miners are back at home on Sunday afternoon taking on Southern Indiana in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
