Box Score 2 (Bentonville, Ark.) - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners earned its first win of the 2011 season defeating Oklahoma Panhandle State
8-0 in six innings then fell to Southwest Baptist
4-2 in game 2 on Saturday afternoon in Bentonville, Ark., at the Quad-States Classic.
The Lady Miners (1-3) broke open a tight ball game scoring six times in the bottom of the fifth. S&T had four hits in the inning and also took advantage of two Lady Aggie (1-11) errors. The Lady Miners added two more in the sixth.
Maggie Schroeder (Bonner Springs, Kan./Basehor-Linwood) paced the S&T offense going 3-for-4 with two singles and a double.
Kristen Drage (Morganfield, Ky./Union County ) was 2-of-4 with a pair of RBIs while
Kassi Deibert (Highland, Ill./Highland) also had two hits and an RBI.
Kaylea Smith (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) chipped in with a two-run double as well.
Amber Duncan (Centralia, Mo./Centralia) tossed a one hit shutout to earn her first win of the season. She struck out a pair of batters.
In game two against the Bearcats (1-3), SBU broke a scoreless tie in the third on a three-run homer to left-center off the bat of Krysta Baderdeen. The Lady Miners answered with two in the home half of the third.
Maggie Schroeder (Bonner Springs, Kan./Basehor-Linwood) drove in the first run with a single to center. Schroeder then advanced all the way to third and scored on the back end of a stolen base attempt.
S&T had a chance to take the lead in the sixth loading the bases with two outs.
Jamie Hatlan (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit ) hit a ball to left-center that was nearly dropped but the centerfield hung on for the final out.
The Bearcats added an insurance run in the seventh on a solo home run by Latasha Baderdeen.
Adrienne Kruse (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) had two of the Lady Miners six hits.
L. Baderdeen and Alexa Harvey had two hits each for SBU.
Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) fell to 0-2 on the season allowing four runs, all earned, giving up six hits in seven innings of work. She struck out five, walked five and hit two batters.
S&T is scheduled to return to action this coming Tuesday in a doubleheader at Central Missouri scheduled for 2 p.m.
