Lady Miners snap skid with sweep of Kentucky Wesleyan

Box Score (Rolla, MO) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners snapped a three match losing streak defeating Kentucky Wesleyan 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-18) on Sunday afternoon in Rolla. S&T finished the matching hitting 23 percent while limiting the Panthers to just an 8.7 percentage.
The Lady Miners (14-6, 9-2 GLVC) dominated the opening set scoring the first three points and didn't look back on its way to the 25-13 win. They led by as many as 11 points before KWC (4-15, 0-11 GLVC) cut the lead to 18-10. They wouldn't get any closer than that. The Lady Miners hit 31.4 percent in the set and were led by Jackie Zellmer (Nixa, Mo./Nixa), Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) and Hayley Wright (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) with four kills apiece.
The Panthers led for the early portions of the second set but S&T responded midway through rallying to take the lead. It would be a lead it wouldn't relinquish as it pulled away for the 25-19 win. Zellmer had nearly half of the Lady Miners 14 kills in the frame. As a team S&T hit 27 percent in the frame.
In the final set KWC had three different leads of three points including its last one at 10-7. S&T once again rose to the challenge this time going on a 7-1 run to take the lead for good. Its lead was eventually stretched to eight before the Panthers got within six.  Katie McDonald (Orland Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) ended the match with her only kill of the contest.
The Lady Miners hit just 10.8 percent in the final frame but held KWC to a negative three percent hitting percentage.
Zellmer had 11 kills leading the way for S&T while Wright finished with 10. Jennifer Costello (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South ) had six kills to go along with 31 assists. Jocelyn DeMotte (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) finished with 21 digs while Bekebrede had 11.
Bridget Johnson had five kills to lead the Panthers. Jordan Rickert dished out 20 assists while Morgan Watson had 12 digs.
The Lady Miners will be back in action this Friday and Saturday taking part in the fourth annual GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Tournament. They will play three matches which will be announced on Monday once the schedule is set.
