Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners ended its season with a
2-2 tie in double overtime against Drury on Wednesday evening at the S&T Soccer Field. S&T had a 2-0 lead nine minutes into the second half but couldn't maintain it.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes the Lady Miners jumped on top in the 51
st minute.
Kimberly Ekholm (Houston, Texas/Cy-Springs ) played a ball downfield to
Leah Williams (Lawrence, Kan./Free State). Williams got in behind the defense for a breakaway then dribbled around the keeper scoring her eighth goal of the season.
S&T wasn't done yet as
Kirstin Kurilla (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) scored nearly three minutes later.
Melissa Young (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) took a shot from the top of the box that was deflected to Kurilla and she was able to knock it over the keeper's head for her first of the season.
Drury (8-8-2, 5-8-2 GLVC) trimmed the lead in half in the 63
rd minute when Nicole Williams knocked in a corner kick on the near post from Hillary Cockrell. Cockrell then tied on a penalty kick 1:21 later.
The Lady Miners had a couple of opportunities to win the game in the final 20 minutes of regulation but were unable to put one past the keeper.
After being outshot by a 10-3 margin in the first half, S&T was able to even things up a little in the second taking 11 shots of which seven were on goal. The Panthers primarily controlled the overtime periods taking six shots, three on goal.
Williams and Kurilla combined to take half of the Lady Miners shots in the contest.
S&T ends its season with a 5-9-2 mark, 5-9-1 in the GLVC.
