Box Score (St. Louis, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miner volleyball team bounced back from a tough five set loss on Friday night with a
3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-16) win at Maryville on Saturday afternoon. S&T continues to hold a one game lead in the Great Lakes Valley Conference's West Division.
The Lady Miners (17-8, 10-3 GLVC) dominated the match hitting 28.6 percent and limiting the Saint (8-13, 3-10 GLVC) offense to just 10 percent. S&T nearly doubled them in kills recording 44 to just 24.
The Lady Miners scored seven of the first 10 points in the opening frame eventually building a 10 point lead. Maryville made a charge late getting to within 23-16, but S&T scored two of the final three points to win 25-17.
Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) and
Kit Spears (Valley Center, Kan./Valley Center) combined for eight kills in the frame.
Jackie Zellmer (Nixa, Mo./Nixa) and
Hayley Wright (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) added two apiece.
The second set was the tightest of the afternoon featuring four ties and two lead changes. S&T got out to a big lead only to see the Saints get within 17-16. From that point on it was all Lady Miners as they scored eight of the last nine points to take the commanding 2-0 lead.
S&T led from start to finish in the third set getting out to an early 6-1 lead and never looked back. Maryville got as close as four but no closer as the Lady Miners were able to pull away for the 25-16 win.
Bekebrede finished the match with 11 kills. Spears had seven while Zellmer finished with six.
Jennifer Costello (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South ) had 31 assists and
Jocelyn DeMotte (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) had 20 digs.
S&T returns to action on Tuesday evening hosting Drury at 7 p.m. Tuesday's match will be the Dig for the Cure match as all fans are encouraged to wear pink to the contest.
