Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) – Colleen Lewis (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall Academy) picked a perfect time to score her first collegiate goal as she scored with two minutes left in the first overtime lifting the Missouri S&T Lady Miners to a
2-1 overtime win over the Lewis Flyers on Friday evening in Rolla.
The first half was scoreless but primarily dominated by Lewis (6-7-1, 6-6-1 GLVC). It outshot S&T (5-8-1, 5-8 GLVC) 6-3 but both sides put two shots on goal. The Flyers had nine corner kicks in the opening frame.
Leah Williams (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) put the Lady Miners on the board three minutes into the second half. She took a pass from
Melissa Moorefield (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) and dribbled down the right side of the box and lofted a shot over the goalkeepers head inside the far corner. It was her seventh goal of the season.
Lewis tied it over 14 minutes later when Shelley Hadlock put home a loose ball in the six yard box for her first of the season.
S&T had a couple of opportunities late in regulation to win the game. Lewis hit a shot off the crossbar and then Williams headed one off the far post with less than 10 minutes to play.
In the first overtime the Flyers controlled play for the early portions but the Lady Miner defense held tough.
S&T mounted its game winning rally late in the frame. Lewis received a long ball dribbled around two defenders and the keeper and slipped it into an open net.
The Lady Miners finished the contest outshooting Lewis 11-10 with each team putting five shots on goal.
S&T returns to action on Sunday afternoon hosting Wisconsin-Parkside at 12 p.m.
