(Rensselaer, Ind.) – Melissa Young (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias)'s goal in the 72nd minute proved to be the difference as Missouri S&T picked up a 1-0 win at Saint Joseph's on Sunday afternoon. S&T (4-8-1, 4-8 GLVC) dominated the match outshooting the Pumas (2-13, 1-11 GLVC) 22-9 on a very windy afternoon in Rensselaer.
After a scoreless and pretty evenly matched first half the Lady Miners came out at the start of the second half and dominated the action taking 12 shots and putting seven of those on goal. S&T was unable to break though until Young scored on a shot from 13 yards out just to the left of the keeper. For Young it was her fourth goal of the season and the second straight year she's scored the game winner against Saint Joseph's.
S&T had plenty of opportunities to extend their lead but Erica Kelly kept her side in the match making 10 saves.
Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) recorded her second career shutout turning away six shots in the contest. Sammy Minea (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley North ), Young and Leah Williams (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) combined for 13 of the Lady Miners 22 shots in the game.
