Early goal sends S&T to third straight defeat

Box Score (Indianapolis, Ind.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners gave up a goal in the second minute and had to fight uphill the rest of the way in its 2-0 loss at Indianapolis on Friday evening.
Lauren Soza scored off a rebound in the second minute giving the Greyhounds (9-4, 7-3 GLVC) the early lead. S&T (3-8-1, 3-8 GLVC) had a couple of opportunities late in the half but were unable to put on past the Greyhound keeper.
Indy held the edge in shots in the opening outshooting the Lady Miners 9-5 and 4-2 in shots on goal.
S&T had some opportunities in the first 20 minutes of the second half but again the Greyhound defense was able to keep the Lady Miners off the scoreboard.
Indy added to its lead in the 72nd minute when Nicole Duncan beat two defenders and put it past Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) who had come off her line for the final tally.
S&T held the edge in shots in the second half outshooting the 'Hounds 8-5 and 3-2 in shots on goal.
For the contest Indy held a slight 14-13 edge putting six of those on goal compared to five for the Lady Miners.
Leah Williams (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) and Kimberly Ekholm (Houston, Texas/Cy-Springs ) combined for nine of S&T's 13 shots in the loss. Deister made four saves.
The Lady Miners return to action on Sunday traveling to Rensselaer, Ind., to take on Saint Joseph's College beginning at 12 p.m.
