(Arkadelphia, Ark.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners concluded its spring break trip to Arkansas on Wednesday dropping a pair of games at Ouachita Baptist
6-1 and
8-0 in five innings in Arkadelphia, Ark.
In the opener on Wednesday the Lady Miners (17-13) had a chance to score the game's first runs getting back-to-back two out singles from Kristen Drage and Kassi Deibert. A passed ball advanced the runners to second and third but were left stranded on a groundout back to the pitcher to end the inning.
The Tigers (28-14) took advantage scoring four times in the bottom half of the inning highlighted by Haley Chambers three-run homer. They added two more in the third on a two-run blast by Kristen Rigsbee.
S&T scored its lone run of the day in the fourth inning on a two out RBI single back up the middle off the bat of Katie Smith scoring Drage from third.
The Lady Miner offense had only six hits in the first game, half of which came from Drage.
Ashley Wallingford took the loss allowing six runs, all earned, on five hits while walking three and striking out one in four innings to fall to 8-5.
The second game was all Ouachita as it scored three times in each of the first two innings and belted three home runs. Chambers hit two more homers including a three-run blast in the first. Sarah Bell added a two-run blast in the second then Chambers led off the third with a solo shot.
The Tigers got their final run in the fourth on a groundout to second with runners at second and third and one out.
S&T was only able to muster three hits in the second game led by Jennifer Sardigal, Deibert and Becky Davis.
Taylor Keal allowed six runs, all earned, on five hits, struck out two and issued two free passes in only two innings of work.
The Lady Miners return to action on Saturday when they travel up to St. Louis to take on the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons beginning at 12 p.m.
