Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners dropped a pair of tough games in extra innings to Lewis 3-1 in eight innings in the opener and 3-2 in 12 innings in the nightcap on Monday afternoon in Rolla.

S&T (16-10, 9-7 GLVC) scored the first run of game one in the bottom of the third inning on back-to-back two out doubles by Lauren Briggs and Jennifer Sardigal.

The 1-0 score held until the seventh inning when Lewis (15-5, 5-1 GLVC) put runners on first and second with one out. After a pitching change, the Flyers tied the game on a double down the left field line. They had a chance to take the lead trying to score on a squeeze play, but Coley Naughton tagged out the runner at the plate to keep the game tied.

Lewis took the lead in the eighth scoring a pair of runs with two outs on a dropped pop up by Becky Davis.

The Lady Miners were only able to muster four hits in the opener by four different players.

Ashley Wallingford pitched the first 6.1 innings allowing a run on five hits while striking out nine and walking only one. Taylor Keal suffered the tough defeat pitching the final 1.2 innings allowing two runs, both unearned, on one hit and walked a pair of batters to fall to 8-4 on the season.

In the second game Lewis jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning scoring on a base hit back up the middle by Michelle Vucsko.

S&T had a chance to take the lead loading the bases with two outs in the third, but Kassi Deibert was thrown out at first on a hard hit ball to the right fielder to end the inning.

The Lady Miners tied the game in the fourth on Naughton's fourth home run of the season and took the lead later in the inning on Katie Smith's double to center scoring Kate Runyan.

The Flyers tied the game in the sixth on Jayme Helfer's single back up the middle. They had the opportunity with one out and a pair of runners on to retake the lead but Wallingford got a strikeout and a ground out to short to get out of the inning.

S&T had a chance to win it in the seventh getting a two-out triple from Kristen Drage. After an intentional walk to Deibert put runners on the corner, Naughton had the chance to be the hero but was called out on strikes forcing the extra innings.

Both teams had their opportunities to win the game in the extra frames. The Lady Miners best chance game in the 11th loading the bases with two outs and Drage at the plate, but she just missed her pitch flying out to right to end the frame.

Lewis broke through in the 12th scoring on a base hit back up the middle. S&T had one final shot in the bottom half of the inning but were retired in order.

The two teams combined for 29 hits and left 26 runners on base in the contest. The Lady Miners finished with 13 hits led by Smith with three. Sardigal, Runyan and Krista Porterfield had two each.
