Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners ran their season-high win streak to six games with a 4-1 win over Northern Kentucky in the first game of the doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately for them the streak was snapped in game two as the Norse rallied for a 3-2 victory.

In the opening game, S&T (8-6, 4-4 GLVC) took advantage of back-to-back two out walks in the opening frame getting two straight hits from Coley Naughton and Becky Davis to take the early 2-0 lead. The Lady Miners added to the lead in the second loading the bases with one out then Kristen Drage drove a single through the left side scoring Krista Porterfield and Lauren Briggs to make it 4-0.

S&T had a chance to extend the lead loading the bases again with one out but were unable to push across another run in the frame.

Northern Kentucky (9-8, 3-2 GLVC) threatened in the third getting on runners on the corner with two outs but Ashley Wallingford was able to get a strike out to end the threat.

The Norse got on the board in the sixth scoring an unearned run to cut the lead to 4-1 and had the tying run at the plate with one out. Wallingford was able to get out of the jam getting a double play ball to second to end the frame.

NKU brought the tying run to the plate again in the seventh with two outs, but she flew out to center to end the game.

Wallingford went the distance to win her third straight allowing the unearned run on four hits while striking out seven and walking five.

Briggs had a pair of hits to lead the Lady Miners. Five players had a hit apiece. Drage drove home two runs.

The nightcap was scoreless through the first three innings before S&T broke on top in the home half of the fourth. Drage got a reprieve when her foul pop up was dropped then three pitches later she homered down the right field line for the game's first run. After a strikeout, Naughton and Jennifer Sardigal got the rally going again with back-to-back singles then Kassi Deibert drove home the second run with a single to short which popped out of the shortstop's glove.

Katie Smith nearly gave the Lady Miners a three run lead but her ball up the middle was corralled by the second baseman and she was able to get the force at second to end the inning.

The Norse responded in the fifth scoring all three of their runs with the big blow a two-run triple to right center off the bat of the pitcher Emily Schwaeble to take the lead.

S&T tried to answer in the bottom of the frame getting a pair of two out hits but couldn't drive home the tying run.

NKU had a chance to blow the game open in the seventh loading the bases with two outs before Taylor Keal got her 11th strikeout of the game to end the frame.

The Lady Miners had a chance in the seventh getting the tying run to third with one out but couldn't get her home as a groundout and a lineout to second ended the game.

Keal tossed a complete game allowing three runs on seven hits and struck out a season-high 11 batters while allowing three free passes to fall to 4-2 on the season.

S&T banged out seven hits in the nightcap led by Drage with two. Just like the first game five different players had at least one hit.

The Lady Miners return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Joplin, Mo., to take on Missouri Southern beginning at 3 p.m.
