Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners had their four match home winning streak snapped by the 12
th ranked Indianapolis Greyhounds
3-0 (25-17, 25-20 and 27-25) on Saturday afternoon at the Bullman Multipurpose Building.
The Lady Miners (6-14, 2-2 GLVC) had a hard time stopping the Greyhound (17-1, 3-1 GLVC) offense in the first set as the 'Hounds finished with 17 kills against only four errors in 40 total chances to finish the frame hitting .325 percent. S&T struggled to get its offense going as they had only nine kills in 41 chances against seven errors. UIndy led by as many as eight points in the opening set.
The offense came alive in the second set hitting a shade over 32 percent (16k/6e/31ta); however the Greyhounds were slightly better hitting nearly 40 percent recording 13 kills against only two errors in 28 total chances. There were five ties and four lead changes in the stanza before Indianapolis broke it open late with a 9-3 run to pull away with a two sets to none lead.
The third set was back and forth for most of the stanza as it saw 13 ties and five lead changes along the way. S&T built a couple of three point leads in the set, but were unable to get any distance on the Greyhounds as they continually answered the Lady Miner runs. S&T held a 19-17 lead late in the stanza before the 'Hounds went on a 5-0 run to take a 22-20 advantage. The Lady Miners answered back with a kill by Kit Spears (Valley Center, Kan./Valley Center) and a service ace by Julie Meyer tying it back up at 22. Indianapolis scored the next two points to set up match point. S&T was able to stave off a couple of set points tying the match back up at 24 all on back-to-back attack errors by Kristina Kerrigan.
The Greyhounds got to its third match point but the Lady Miners staved it off again on yet another kill by Spears. UIndy was able to close out the match by getting back-to-back kills from Kourtney Crawford to secure the win.
Meyer led S&T with her eighth double-double of the season recording 10 kills and 15 digs. Spears and Samantha Klump (Ash Grove, Mo./Homeschooled) finished with seven and six kills respectively.
The Lady Miners return to action next weekend traveling up to Kenosha, Wis., to take on Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday evening beginning at 7 p.m.
