Lady Miners dominate Illinois-Springfield 3-0

Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners dominated from start to finish in its 3-0 win over Illinois-Springfield on Sunday afternoon in Rolla. The Lady Miners outshot the Prairie Stars by a 33-1 margin including 20-0 in shots on goal.

S&T (2-2-1, 2-1 GLVC) controlled possession of the ball for a majority of the first half and were continually peppering the UIS (2-3, 0-3 GLVC) goal, but its goalie made some big saves to keeping the game scoreless.

The Lady Miners finally got on the board in the 23rd minute when Morgan Lockowitz (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin ) fired one into the upper left hand corner of the goal. Brooke Ryan (Olathe, Kan./Olathe East) set the play up crossing the ball into the box to Melia Miller (Richardson, Texas/J.J. Pearce), who passed it back to Lockowitz for the goal.

S&T had some more opportunities as the half went on but the Prairie Stars Kelli Kubal made 10 saves in the period to keep it close. The Lady Miners finished the half with a 20-0 advantage in shots 11 of which were on goal.

Miller extended the lead almost six and a half minutes into the second half picking up a loose ball and rifling in a shot from 30 yards out that went over the keeper's head. S&T added its third goal in the 81st minute when Sabrina Drennan (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) was able to get her head on a cross from Heather Ferstl (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) and knock it into an open goal.

Hillary Griffith (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) and Leah Williams (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) led the Lady Miners with five shots each in the contest, seven of which were on goal. Lockowitz and Miller combined for seven shots as well of which five were on target. Kelsey Kurilla (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and Stacey Luquette (St. Amant, La./St. Amant ) combined for the shutout for S&T.  

The Lady Miners return to action on Friday evening taking on the Quincy Hawks in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match-up in Quincy, Ill., beginning at 5 p.m.
