(East Peoria, Ill.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners 2009 season came to end with a pair of run rule losses to Missouri-St. Louis,
10-0 in five innings and
9-0 to Indianapolis on Friday afternoon at the GLVC Postseason Tournament in East Peoria, Ill.
In the opener against the top seeded Tritons (35-16), UMSL broke on top with a pair of first inning runs on a two out single back up the middle just past a diving Krista Porterfield (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) for the game's first two runs. S&T (21-29) had a chance in the third inning putting its first two runners on base with back-to-back walks but a pair of strikeouts and a fly out to center ended the threat.
Missouri-St. Louis added four in the fourth on a two run triple, a RBI single and a RBI bunt to make it 6-0. The Tritons added four more in the fifth, including the final three on an inside the park home run for the final margin.
Jen O'Hara took the loss allowing six runs on eight hits in four innings of work. Becky Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara HS) had the lone hit for the Lady Miners.
After a short break S&T came right back to play an elimination game against the third seeded Indianapolis Greyhounds (29-17). The Lady Miners got the first two outs of the game then Megan Russell hit a home run to straight away center for a 1-0 advantage. After a single and a error Jessica Breeden hit a three run homer to straight center to make it 4-0.
The Lady Miners loaded the bases with one out in the second inning and a chance to tie the game but a pair of groundouts ended the inning.
The Greyhounds added two more in the fifth on a two run single by Breeden before adding three in the sixth on a two run homer by Megan Swanson and Russell's second home run of the contest to make it 9-0.
Emily Tucker (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) had two of the Lady Miner four hits in the contest while Kristen Drage (Morganfield, Ky./Union County ) and Kassie Deibert had the other two. O'Hara suffered the loss allowing nine runs, six earned, on 10 hits in six innings of work to fall to 12-18 on the year.
