Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners snapped its five game winning losing streak behind a complete game victory from Jen O'Hara in a 4-1 win in the opener before dropping the second game 10-7 on Saturday afternoon at the S&T Softball Field.

O'Hara was strong in the first game of the day allowing a lead-off homer to open the game and was able to pitch out of jams in the first and sixth innings thanks to some great plays from her defense which turned two double plays in the contest. She allowed only six hits in the contest, three of which came in the first inning, while recording four strikeouts and didn't walk a batter as she retired 11 of 13 hitters during one stretch in the middle innings.

The offense tied the game in the first thanks to some small ball getting a lead-off walk from Emily Tucker (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) in an eight pitch at bat. After she stole second she moved to third on a sac bunt from Becky Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara HS) then scored on a single off the bat of Rachelle Rhodes (Beggs, Okla./).

S&T (6-13, 1-5 GLVC) took the lead for good in the second getting a lead-off walk and a single from Katie Smith (Shawnee, Kan./Shawnee Mission Northwest) to open the frame. After another sacrifice bunt moved the runners up to second and third Krista Porterfield (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) drove in what proved to be the game winner with a sacrifice fly to center. The Lady Miners had a chance to add to the lead but a ground out to second ended the threat.

S&T took advantage of some gifts by Kentucky Wesleyan (11-11, 1-1 GLVC) in third loading the bases with nobody out thanks to an error, a walk and a fielder's choice. After a fly out to center Kassi Deibert (Highland, Ill./Highland) drove home Davis with a single to right then Rhodes came around to score and the runner on first went to third when the right fielder misplayed it. The Lady Miners had a great chance to break the game wide open with runners at the corner and only one out but a strike out and ground out ended the threat.

That would be all the support O'Hara needed though as she held the Panther bats in check. She had some trouble in the sixth though loading the bases with nobody out on an error, a single and a hit by pitch but got a force out at the plate and then a double play ball to Davis ending the threat. O'Hara retired the side in order in the seventh to improve her record to 3-9.

The second game was a little higher scoring as the two teams combined for 17 runs on 21 hits in the contest. The Panthers scored three times in the first to take the early 3-0 lead with two of the runs being unearned because of a throwing error by Ashley Wallingford (Kahoka, Mo./Clark County ).

S&T responded though putting its first two runners on then after a sac bunt from Rhodes, Kristen Drage (Morganfield, Ky./Union County ) came through with an RBI double to left-center bringing home both runs. After a hit by pitch and a passed ball allowed Drage to move third and Coley Naughton (Alton, Ill./Alton) to move to second, Drage scored on Deibert's single to third tying the game.

The Lady Miners had a chance to take the lead with runners at the corner but a caught stealing and a strikeout ended the threat. KWC retook the lead with a run in the second on some small ball of its own starting things off with a bunt single back to Wallingford. After a groundout advanced the runner to second an RBI single up the middle brought the runner home.

S&T tied the game back up in the third with another RBI single from Deibert and again had two on with one out but were unable to drive in the runs. The Panthers came right back scoring four times in the fourth with two singles a triple and a two run homer down the left field line with two outs to regain the lead at 8-4.

The Lady Miners got two of those runs back in the home half of the inning getting an RBI double from Davis and a RBI groundout from Rhodes.

The Panthers added two more runs in the sixth thanks to another two out two run homer this time off the bat of Haleigh Ashworth to regain their four run cushion. S&T tried to rally in the seventh getting a couple of singles and scoring a run on Naughton's single back up the middle but back-to-back groundouts ended the contest.

Wallingford took the loss allowing 10 runs, eight earned, on 12 hits while striking out three and allowing just one walk in six innings of work seeing her record drop to 3-4. Olivia Randolph got the win for Kentucky Wesleyan pitching a complete game allowing seven runs, six earned, on nine hits while walking four and striking out two.

The Lady Miners return to action on Sunday afternoon against Southern Indiana in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m., at the S&T Softball Field.
